Garden Re-Design - Long Marston, York

Re-design of four small garden beds would usually be quite a simple task but this design incorporated both lighting and a water fountain adding a layer of complexity to the design.  When completing this design Ed wanted to respect the area and chose pebbles sourced locally to fill in the water fountain so the design blended seamlessly with the wider area.  The modern polished stainless steel fountain brought a touch of modern design to the outdoor space of the house.

Stylish Patio to Replace Old Grey Gravel Area - Clifton Moor, York

This project was initiated by my client and after careful consideration of the area Ed chose a small tumbled cobble stone to replace the concrete and gravel.  This cobble was chosen to compliment the brick built house while adding a touch of rustic charm to the stylish patio.  A path was also constructed to allow access to a storage area down the side of the house.  This project was carried out with base construction exceeding minimum specification to ensure a long life patio which the owners of the property can enjoy for many years to come.

Full Garden Clearout

This garden was attached to a house which was due to be rented out.  Unfortunately the garden had become overgrown and unmanageable.  Ed was able to take the garden back to it bones and allow the size of this private rear garden to be seen by potential renters.

Following the garden clearcut the house was successfully rented out.

Hedge Maintenance

Kerb appeal is the attractiveness of a property and its surroundings when viewed from the street.  This is particularly important when it comes to selling or renting out your house.  67% of people surveyed said that a tidy garden was an important kerb appeal feature and the most obvious signs of a well loved house are neat and tidy hedges.  Even if you are not selling your house having a spick and span garden can reduce your chance of being burgled.  Keeping your garden in good order eliminates potential hiding places and gives the appearance of the home being occupied at all times.  Careful planting can also hinder potential burglars from accessing your property.

Garden Consultancy

Do you have problems in your new build garden ?  I'd be surprised if you didn't.  A survey carried out in 2019 found that 74% of respondents had discovered problems with gardens attached to houses built in the last 10 years.

This service is mainly offered to clients moving into new build homes.  The NHBC has a very narrow set of guidelines for builders to follow when designing gardens and unlike the 10 year building warranty the garden warranty is only valid for two years.  Given this two year deadline it is imperative that any problems you think you may have with your garden are identified and raised with the builders as soon as possible.

The garden featured here and in the gallery was on a new build in North Yorkshire.  My client called me as they had concerns about some water pooling in the garden and wanted my opinion on this.  Following my visit I identified a number of issues with the garden and produced a report which my client was able to take to the builder to raise along with other nagging issues in the property.

This report lead to the garden being completely taken out and replanted.  Inappropriate plants were removed and replaced and the turf was stripped, more topsoil was added and new turf relaid.  To see some of the snagging issues identified have a look in the gallery
